Blackjack Versus Roulette

Blackjack Versus Roulette

Blackjack and roulette are both popular table games in casinos. Most times players come up with this question of,“which amongst the two is the better to play?” The fact is that before you decide that, there are factors to consider. You have to consider factors such as payouts, bets and odds and depending on your preference; you would determine which you feel is better for you. Determining which of the two is preferable is more subjective.

Comparing Odds

For the game of Roulette, you should know it depends more on fixed odds. This is because; the possibility of a ball landing on a number is only random. Using an American wheel as an example, a real wager on a single wager will have a 2.63% shot at winning. However, in the case of blackjack, the odds are not fixed. In fact, the house edge depends on the number of decks used. For casinos that used between 4-8 decks per table, they offer a house edge of about 0.5%. Even for tables that use as much as 8 decks of cards, the blackjack house edge is still lower than that of the roulette.

Strategy Versus Pure Chance

Again, unlike in the roulette, players in the blackjack have the ability to affect the house edge by playing smart. With good playing strategies, you can make an estimation and predict which card will be drawn next in the deck following the cards that have already been dealt out. This knowledge of course increases your chances of winning but this is impossible in the roulette game as the odds there are strictly fixed.

Assessing Payouts

While it is true that the blackjack has a lower house edge, its payout per round is actually lower. Wins for blackjack are typically 1:1. Once in a while, you would get a 3:2 which is just like 1.5 times your original bet. In the roulette game however, you can get as much as 35:1 payouts for each round of bet. Roulette allows more flexibility in the amount you can wager and also in the amount that can be won as players are permitted to place multiple bets. These are the three basic points to consider. While going for one, you should however bear it in mind that you have more chances of winning with the blackjack game so long as you have the skill unlike the roulette game where the game uncertainties are quite high.
